Leslie Smith: Toddler Teacher
Leslie started with St. John’s in 2015/2016. She chose to pursue education as a career at a young age. Leslie completed her Early Childhood Education degree at Owens Community College. “Younger children have bright minds and are eager to learn something different everyday. I can honestly say that I love and enjoy my job very much.”
Rebecca Chase: Toddler Teacher
Rebecca home schooled both of her sons until 8th grade. She chose to work with children because that seemed like the most natural thing for her to do. In her heart, she is a mom first. Rebecca love’s the joy and laughter that small children share in their everyday activities. She loves teaching and can’t imagine doing anything else.
A SAMPLE DAY
The classroom is set up to meet the developmental needs of the children and to provide them with the opportunity to make choices. The Classrooms contain four learning zones:
- GROSS MOTOR: This area encourages children to use their large muscles through climbing, block play, music and movement.
- DRAMATIC PLAY: This area encourages children to engage in role-playing activities with the use of props.
- MESSY: This area encourages children to express themselves and be creative through art to heighten their sensory awareness through a variety of sensory oriented activities.
- QUIET: This area allows children a space to retreat to for some quiet time and encourages children to develop language/ literacy skills through the use of books and soft toys develop fine motor coordination with the use of science manipulative.
